Goodbye To All That - Essays About Leaving New York - Book

Stemming from Joan Didion's seminal essay Goodbye To All That, essays about leaving New York have become their own genre.

And now here is a whole book of them, Goodbye to All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving New York an anthology edited by Sari Botton, containing essays by 28 of New York's former, current, and returned writers, who rhapsodize about their love for the city, and lament or celebrate leaving.

And if you've never read Didion's essay you must, it set the standard for personal essay writing. You can find it in Slouching Towards Bethlehem:

Brooklyn Writers

The Guardian has just discovered, ten years after the fact, that New York's writers now all live in Brooklyn. Given thatThe Guardian is only paying people £300 for features these days, it should hardly be surprising that writers can't afford to live in Manhattan anymore.

Shephard Fairey Mural Vandalized

The damage that's been done to the Shephard Fairey mural at the Deitch gallery has become phenomenal. I'm going to backtrack a history to it when I get the time, which isn't right now.

This is the Os Gemeos mural which is hiding underneath Fairey's piece.

The Keith Haring mural which took the spot previously.
